Financial Aid 2007-08

General Financial Aid Information

Seattle Country Day school strives to maintain a student population that represents all socio-economic backgrounds. Toward that end, the purpose of Seattle Country Day School 's financial aid program is to provide financial assistance to families for whom, without such assistance, a Seattle Country Day School education would not be an option. A financial aid award is based on family financial need, and does not need to be repaid. No merit or other scholarships are available.

As part of the application process, the school utilizes the School and Student Service for Financial Aid in Princeton, New Jersey. You must re-apply each year, and inform the school of any changes to your financial circumstance that may affect the amount of aid awarded.

The admissions and financial aid processes are separate. Admissions decisions are made independent of financial aid considerations and are based on whether Seattle Country Day School is best suited to meet the student's educational needs. Information about students on financial aid is kept confidential.

Should I apply for Financial Aid?

For most families, managing the cost of a private school education takes planning and effort. SCDS recognizes that the primary responsibility for financing a student's independent school education rests with his or her family, and to the extent that they are able, families are expected to pay for the educational expenses of their children. There are no set guidelines that we can offer to help you decide whether to apply for financial aid. While the amount expected from parents depends on the family's ability to pay, each family's circumstances are different and many other factors beyond income are taken into consideration when making financial aid awards. Therefore, you are in the best position to make this decision. The current average monthly tuition is approximately $1,800 per student each month for 10 months. The following information is provided to offer a broad overview of Seattle Country Day School 's current financial aid awards.

Total Income

Award Range

$0-25,000

$12,000-18,000

$25,001-50,000

$10,000-16,000

$50,001-75,000

$5,000-14,000

$75,001-100,000

$1,000-13,000

Over $100,000

$1,000-10,000

It is very important to keep in mind that many factors beyond income are considered when determining a family's contribution. These factors include but are not limited to, parent and student assets, family size, how many children attend tuition charging schools, and how close parents are to retirement. In circumstances where parents are divorced, the incomes from divorced parents and their new partners are combined.
