Grouping

Small classes allow teachers to get to know each student well in order to best anticipate his/her academic, social and emotional needs. Instructional approaches are naturally individualized to allow for students' academic needs, personalities and interests. On average, our class sizes are 16 students per class with some groups slightly smaller or larger to accommodate different subject areas.

As children move through the program, they are grouped with children of their chronological age. Each fall, children are regrouped so that they have the opportunity to get to know and work with other children at their age. Class placements are made with great care in order to create harmonious groups. Teachers consider academic skills, social maturity, friendships and potential new relationships, physical development, learning preferences and parental input as they annually form class groups. Our goal is to assign each child to an appropriately challenging, not overwhelming, class where he/she will be best empowered.
