Book Clubs

Library Literature Circles
All fourth and fifth grade students participate in Library Literature Circles as part of their library program. The students meet three times during the year with two parent co-leaders to share ideas about a book they have all read. Discussion is stimulated by questions that have no "right" or "wrong" answers, and the students learn to listen and to respect the ideas of those who may have different opinions. They also learn to take a position and defend their point of view. The books are passed out two weeks before the book discussion date, and all students are expected to come to the discussion session having read the book.

Avid Reader's Book Club
Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders can participate in an elective book club called "Avid Readers" that meets three times a year in the library during lunchtime. The students meet with parent leaders to eat lunch and to discuss the books that they have read. Participation in this book club is voluntary.
