Program

Our goal and effort is to nurture our students as whole human beings. We value strength of character and self-confidence along with creativity and intellectual power. As they grow through Seattle Country Day School, students will be reinforced for their intellectual curiosity, the strength of their problem-solving, their quest for excellence and their good organizational skills. They also will be encouraged to develop personal flexibility, empathy for others, integrity and kindness. We seek to develop scholarly minds, but, more important, we seek to develop fine human beings.

At SCDS, academic skills are taught using a wide variety of approaches. We know that bright children crave greater complexity and depth in the curriculum, but they vary in their need for an accelerated curriculum. Our emphasis is placed on horizontal enrichment designed to broaden conceptual understanding rather than acceleration which simply speeds up coverage of a sequential curriculum. Within any classroom, children will be working over a range of skill levels. SCDS students who are ready to take academic, creative and/or cognitive leaps find encouragement and challenge, yet they also supported for their age-appropriate developmental needs.
