SPOTLIGHT: Asta Wylie '13

SCDS alumna Asta Wylie is a renegade girl-power anthem artist, bringing a unique sound to the country music scene of Nashville.

Asta moved to Nashville in August after graduating high school to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter and recording artist. Her new EP Keep Me In Mind was her final project in Seattle before setting off for Nashville. She is excited to share it with the world on November 17, 2017 (available for pre-order on iTunes now!). The first single, "Hit & Run," is currently on rotation at several radio stations and on all major streaming services.

"My sound has been described as 'badass Americana'. It's a mix of country, indie, and rock for sure," Asta said. "Think Miranda Lambert meets Dixie Chicks, with a touch of Janis Joplin. As a musician, I aim to give women a powerful voice and show the power of vulnerability,"

The annual Alumni Turkey Scramble is fast approaching: Friday, November 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Green Lake Lower Woodland Playing Field.

There is no cost to join in the fun, but we invite all players and spectators to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to Queen Anne Food Bank. In exchange, you'll be entered for the chance to win Five Ultimate and/or Aria Ultimate swag.

Not an Ultimate player? Not a problem! This is a great opportunity to reconnect with fellow alums over coffee, donuts, and spirited Ultimate scrimmages.

YOU'RE INVITED: SCDS Auction

Image

The SCDS Auction is one of the school's largest events. Produced by the Parent Council with support from the Advancement Office, the auction is not only a fundraiser—supporting approximately 6% of the school's operating budget—but a 'friendraiser' that gathers our community together for the benefit of SCDS students.

This is a 21+ event and we would love to have you join us! Save the date for Saturday, March 3, 2018 and keep an eye out for ticketing deatils, registration, and a catalog of items in the next few months! Questions? Email this year's Auction Chairs Bina Shukla and Susan Hood here.

Reconnect. Network. Engage.

With fall fast approaching, it's time to reconnect, network, and engage with one another. Maybe you want to start an alumni book club or you're interested in recruiting an alum as an expert to speak at your company—whatever you are looking for we want to support you!

Reconnect
Sign up on our Alumni Student Directory to reconnect with classmates! Already signed up on the Directory? Take a moment to log in and make sure your information is up-to-date.

Network
We recently revamped our LinkedIn Group and hope you will join and stay tuned for internship/mentorship/job postings as well as other great content.

Engage

We love perusing all of the exciting things alums are up to in our Class Notes section of Kinetics, but that is only published two times per year. We want to highlight alums through an Alumni Blog on the SCDS website featuring stories about alums and their winding paths after SCDS be it in college or in careers post-college. Be on the lookout for updates on this exciting project set to launch post-New Year's 2018.
