Testing Information

We ask all applicants to take the Wechsler Intelligence Scale test. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale is a test of cognitive ability, and is not achievement-based. Students for whom SCDS is a good fit score at or above the 97th percentile in either the Full-Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ) or General Abilities Index (GAI). We do, however, consider scores that fall close to the 97th percentile for students who demonstrate other gifted characteristics. A licensed psychologist should send WPPSI-IV or WISC-V results directly to our office. Kindly see below for licensed psychologists that our families have worked with in the past.

Students should not be “prepped” for the IQ test as it is a test of cognitive ability, rather than an achievement test. If a student has been exposed to test materials, psychologists are bound to report this prior exposure in their full report. Seattle Country Day School may be unable to accept the results as valid. Students must wait 6-12 months before being re-administered the same cognitive test. Test results are valid for two years.

Although the test can be administered to younger children, we recommend that parents wait until a child is 4 1/2 years old to be tested.

Please note that the WISC-V is required for children applying to grades 2–8. If a child applying to 2nd grade has previously taken the WPPSI-IV, they will need to retest using the WISC-V in order to be eligible for consideration.

If our testing requirement is a financial hardship for your family, please contact Matt Stenovec, Director of Admissions, directly: 206.691.2625.
