On Saturday, December 8, the SCDS Debate Team participated in the Middle School Tournament at Seattle University. Twenty-two grade 7 and 8 students, led by coach Jennifer Perevodchikov, competed in three different sessions and delved into these different topics: "Should Tipping Be Eliminated?", "Should Supreme Court Judges Have Term Limits?" and the impromptu, "Should Emojis be Allowed in Professional Writng?" Two SCDS teams went undefeated, three students received first, second, and third place in the Experienced Speaker category, one received highest points in the Novice Debater category, and SCDS took 4th place overall.
Coach Perevodchikov noted the tournament was a "great display of our students' hard work and enthusiasm" and grade 7 parent Danna Redmond says she was "blown away by the poise, presence, and [the students'] ability to think on their feet."
This was the second debate tournament of the season; the third one will occur in February.
