On Thursday, May 3, 2018, over 350 members of the SCDS community—including faculty, alumni, alumni parents, Trustees, grandparents, and current parents—gathered on campus to honor Head of School Michael G. Murphy for his fourteen years of steadfast leadership.
Following an opportunity to connect and mingle, guests enjoyed a short program and a champagne toast. Many thanks to our guest speakers which included: Former Lower School Head Jackie Bradley, Board President Ramona Emerson, Former Board Chair Anne Schaefer, Former Board Chair Nancy Senseney, Former Board Chair Len Jordan, Grade 5 Humanities Teacher Jane Hesslein, Alumni Parent Mike Boyle, Intermediate and Middle School Head and Director of Professional Growth K-8 Grade Dan Sweeney, Lower School Head Tom Darlow, and remarks from Former Board Chair Leslie Magid Higgins.Under his directorship, the school has surpassed numerous milestones including A Place to Grow Capital Campaign, the launch of Social Emotional Learning (SEL), countless Northwest Association of Independent School re-accreditations, and the creation of the school's inaugural Infinity Fund Endowment. That being said, Michael G. Murphy will be the first to remind you that, "...advancing a school is always a team effort." Mr. Murphy is set to retire at the end of this school year and will be succeeded by Head of School elect Kimberly Zaidberg. Additional reflections on Michael G. Murphy's impact can be perused in the spring edition of Kinetics.
