As part of the historic Queen Anne neighborhood, we’re situated right in the city’s bustling core. Our neighborhood is the perfect laboratory for introducing students to their fellow residents and teaching them the value of community service.
In the Lower School, students may be found spreading mulch at David Rodgers Park, donating items to the Queen Anne Help Line, or making cards for patients at Seattle Children's Hospital. In the Intermediate School, seasonal visits to Queen Anne Health Care are integrated into the learning experience. By Middle School, a variety of service learning projects have not only ingrained the concept of 'giving back' but have exposed students to the issues of homelessness, hunger, disability, aging, and environmental degradation.
Community service at SCDS is really about inspiring all students to expand their awareness of the world, and to be good stewards of the gifts they have to share with others.
